Connor McDavid Wins Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoffs MVP

First Skater to Win on a Losing Team Since 1976

Edmonton Oilers' Captain Adds to Impressive Trophy Case

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been named the winner of the 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player of the playoffs. McDavid is the first skater to win the Conn Smythe on a losing team since the Philadelphia Flyers' Reggie Leach in 1976.

McDavid led the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final, where they fell to the Colorado Avalanche in six games. However, he was a dominant force throughout the playoffs, leading all players in scoring with 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) in 24 games.

The Conn Smythe Trophy is named after Conn Smythe, the former general manager and coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It has been awarded annually since 1965 to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team during the playoffs.

McDavid's win is a testament to his exceptional talent and leadership. He is one of the most dynamic players in the NHL, and his performance in the playoffs was simply breathtaking. Despite the Oilers' ultimate defeat, McDavid has cemented his status as one of the best players in the game.
